Mereco Awarded Governor’s Citation for Healthcare Initiatives

In recognition of Mereco’s early adoption of HealthsourceRI and leadership role in the Rhode Island health benefit exchange, Governor Lincoln Chafee presented Philip M. Papoojian, President and COO of Mereco Technologies Group, with a Governor’s Citation at a ceremony held at the State House in Providence, RI.
“As premium costs started to escalate, I became personally involved in the health insurance debate, serving on numerous panels, both government and private.” said Mr. Papoojian. “When Rhode Island decided to establish its own exchange, HealthSourceRI, I found their plan to incorporate employee choice into its portfolio of benefits intriguing.”
Prior to the March 31st deadline representatives from the Exchange visited Mereco to present the various plans and answer employee questions. Mr. Papoojian decided to put the decision to a vote and by a large majority, Mereco employees voted to move to the Exchange. Employees cited the ability to choose from the sixteen-plan portfolio and potentially reduce their personal premiums by determining the level of deductibles and co-pays they were comfortable with as the primary reason for the move.
Healthcare marketplaces, which began operating in all 50 states on January 1, allow consumers who lack coverage to purchase private health insurance. Rhode Island’s exchange, the only one to offer employee choice, has received national recognition as the most successful in the country.
