Posted: Aug 08, 2011
Mereco Technologies announces the introduction of Lean Manufacturing processes including value stream mapping methodology into the operations of its Specialty Packaging Division. This process improvement strategy was initiated with the help of a major Mereco customer for which Mereco was looking at cost reduction strategies through continual improvement.
According to Drew Locher, the author of the book "Value Stream Mapping for Lean Development" , value stream mapping is a method of visualizing the flow of a service, a product, or information. Paul Robinson, a chemical engineer and the Mereco production engineer responsible for management of the Specialty Packaging Division, states "We anticipate an immediate 5-10% cost reduction and much greater efficiences over time due to the implementation of Lean Manufacturing processes in our Specialty Packaging area."
"The implementation of Lean Manufacturing processes is indicative of Mereco's commitment to continual improvement and innovative manufacturing." according to Philip M. Papoojian, Mereco's President and COO. "Mereco specialty packaging products are shipped worldwide and we need to make sure that we remain competitive on an international scale" Papoojian said.
